UNDERSTANDING Tendonitis & Bursitis
Tendonitis and bursitis are two common conditions that involve inflammation and irritation of tendons and bursae, respectively. Tendons are strong, fibrous connective tissues that attach muscles to bones, allowing for movement and stability. Bursae, on the other hand, are small fluid-filled sacs located between tendons, muscles, and bones, acting as cushions to reduce friction and provide lubrication during movement.
Tendonitis occurs when a tendon becomes inflamed due to repetitive motions, overuse, or direct trauma. It commonly affects areas such as the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, or ankle, where tendons are subjected to repeated stress and strain. Bursitis, on the other hand, is the inflammation of a bursa, which can occur as a result of repetitive motions, prolonged pressure, or underlying conditions such as arthritis. Bursitis is commonly found in areas where bursae are located, such as the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, or heel.
Symtpoms of TENDONITIS & BURSITIS
If you are experiencing tendonitis or bursitis, you may encounter one or more of the following symptoms:
- Localized pain, tenderness, or discomfort near the affected tendon or bursa
- Swelling, redness, or warmth around the inflamed area
- Stiffness or limited range of motion in the nearby joint
- Pain that worsens with movement or activity and improves with rest
