I often find myself sympathizing with the villains in stories.
A Rae Story
It’s funny how our perspective changes as we walk through life. Life is messy. Maybe the villains were trying to make the world a better place even if their methods were less than honorable (I’m looking at you Dr. Horrible). Maybe they were closer to being the hero than it first appeared. If you’ve ever read the story of “Sleeping Beauty” and wondered where you can get a hold of that witch who can put you to sleep for a thousand years, you might know where I’m coming from. Because, sometimes sleep like that sounds more like a gift than a curse.
A good night sleep shouldn’t be the stuff of curses and fairy tales but the reality is that about 1 in 3 American adults struggle with insomnia.
Although scientists don’t fully understand sleep or all the reasons why we need it, most of us have probably felt the effects of too little sleep and can agree it does not feel great. (Have you ever thought about the fact that we spend about a third of our lives asleep?! Crazy, right? Makes you want to go out and buy some fancy sheets…)
Often times insomnia is a secondary disorder caused by things like chronic pain, respiratory issues, acid reflux, stress, anxiety, depression, or the compulsive need to finish a great book (okay, no medical journal said that…but I had to include it because that is also real).
If you’re struggling with sleep, there’s no need to go searching out fairy tale witches and making dark deals. Studies have shown and our clients agree, acupuncture is an effective treatment option for insomnia. (In fact, studies have indicated that acupuncture works as well, if not better than traditional Western medications for sleep.)
Acupuncture works by treating the root causes of insomnia like pain and respiratory disorders. It can also raise melatonin secretion, increase blood flow, and release endorphins all of which can help you sleep better.
So what’s stopping you? We can’t guarantee a thousand year nap, but we can guarantee treatment that is safe, effective, natural, and comes with virtually no negative side effects.
